Command Sgt. Maj. Bryan D. Barker

Command Sgt. Maj. Bryan D. Barker assumed responsibility as the Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command on June 21, 2021. In this role, CSM Barker serves as an advisor to the Commanding General, a focal point for driving DEVCOM’s Soldier-Centered Design, and the Command’s primary connection to the operational Army.

CSM Barker entered the United States Army in June 1996 and completed One Station Unit Training for MOS 11B, Infantryman, at Fort Benning, Georgia. CSM Barker has served in various positions as an Infantryman throughout his career, including all positions from rifleman to Operations Sergeant Major with 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment; Command Sergeant Major of 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade; XXIst Regimental Command Sergeant Major of 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Brigade CSM for 5th Armor BDE in Fort Bliss, TX. His most recent assignment was Command Sergeant Major, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell Command Sergeant Major.

CSM Barker’s overseas assignments include a tour in Germany with deployments to Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, and Ukraine.

He has six combat deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, eight combat deployments to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and one deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Resolute Support.

CSM Barker is a graduate of Air Assault School, Airborne School, U.S. Army Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, U.S. Marine Corps Winter Mountain Leader Course, Pre-Command Course, and all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, including Class 63 of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Nominative Leaders Course, and the Keystone Course. He has earned an associate degree from Excelsior College.

Barker’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal (“V” device and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with five campaign stars, Iraq Campaign Medal with five campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 5, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 6, and NATO Medal. CSM Barker has earned the Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge and Pathfinder and Air Assault Badge, as well as Canadian, Korean, Moldovan and Czech Parachutist Badges. CSM Barker is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice, the Order of Saint George, and the Order of Saint Barbara.
